Final assignment

After the second lesson of this week, you will start working (in pairs) on the final assignment. For the final assignment you will be redesigning an existing webshop. This assignment is graded and has to be handed in on Thursday 16 June. Please read the information that is presented here before the second lesson of this week, so we can discuss the assignment during the tutor meeting.

Step 1 - Analyse current situation

Analyse the persona, analyse the current website by performing an extensive expert review and present your findings in a convincing and coherent conclusion.

Step 2 - Describe the design challenge

Write a short description of the design challenge, based on the insights you gained in step 1. Describe the client, the target audience, the problem statement and the goal.

Step 3 - Write requirements

Write requirements for the redesign of the website. Link the requirements clearly to the insights you presented in Step 1. Make sure that the final list of requirements is a complete overview of what should be done to reach the goal you set for this design challenge in Step 2.

Step 4 - Define the visual style for the redesign

Define the visual style for the redesign of the webshop by making a style tile.

To keep on track with the final assignment, we advise you to finish the steps presented here in week 16.

Step 5 - Choose patterns and make wireframes

Make lo-fi wireframes for the redesign of all relevant pages and elements, in which you apply patterns from the book: a minimum of 4 patterns of each chapter that was discussed in this course.

Step 6 - Motivate the choice for patterns

Start writing a motivation for the choice of patterns. For now, focus on motivating why the chosen patterns should be applied. You will apply and detail the patterns further in the next step (visual design). After you have finished the visual design, you can complete your motivation with a argumentation of why you adapted the patterns in the way you did.

Step 7 - Make the visual design

Make visual designs for all relevant pages and elements. Detail the patterns you selected in the previous step further and adapt them to this specific context in the visual designs.

Add annotations to your visual designs to make clear where you applied the selected patterns and how interactions work.

Step 9 - Motivate design choices

For every pattern that you used, write an argumentation why the chosen pattern suits your design. In this argumentation, focus on how the applied pattern facilitates a good user-system interaction (what is the benefit for the user).

When the design is completely done, write an evaluation of your design.
